MASFAP Early Awareness Assisted in Moberly’s UCAN2 Program By Amy Hager

Members of MASFAP’s Early Awareness Committee joined the staff of Moberly Area Community College to participate in the annual UCAN2 event at the end of March.

UCAN2 is program designed to motivate and inspire students to think about positive opportunities available in their future, to develop positive educational experiences, and promote a belief that college is possible regardless of barriers.  Each year, MACC hosts over 600 middle school students from the Moberly area for three different early awareness activities based on grade-level (6th, 7th and 8th).

Kayla Klein and Robin Posey, MASFAP Early Awareness members, joined the staff at MACC for the 8th grade program on March 23, 2017.  Nearly 200 students participated in the financial literacy event known as the Reality Store, which was the genesis of the current day “MASFAP Money Challenge”.  Additionally, the students listened to a presentation from Moberly High School Principal Zach McMains about how to be successful in high school.  At the conclusion of the event, each student took a picture in a cap and gown, holding a sign “Class of 2021” (a copy of the picture is later presented to each student with a note “Make it Happen!”), and each student received a commemorative t-shirt.  It was an exciting, energetic and eye opening day for all!
